How did you integrate technologies- software, hardware and online- in this project?

I've used so many softwares in this project and ran through so many websites in developing my content and researching. I've had to sometimes use two different PC's at the same time so that I can have a clear view of two different software programs. I used many online websites to edit my content like the images and formatting.

Throughout this project I used a MacBook Air, I've gotten a lot more familiar with it. They use Apple iOS, the second most used mobile device platform in the world. It is right behind Android. They have many different features, I used a lot of safari inside of chrome when looking online. My phone also runs on Apple iOS, I used some of the filter images it provides to take some of the pictures that are in my blogs.

This whole project consisted of using many different softwares, technologies and online websites. Without technology I wouldn't of been able to be successful with my research and overall blogs.

How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues?

My product uses the conventions, like including some features of modern day fitness magazines; many different colors, the layout of the magazine, and etc. A specific example is my MastHead, it is bright and bold and can be seen from a mile away.

My magazine represents the fitness industry and the people. People who are interested in fitness and what it brings. The magazine provides information of exercises, nutrition, and equipment to get into shape.

Now in today's society we have a current issue and that is obesity. According to the World Health Organization:

  • Worldwide obesity has tripled since 1975
  • In 2016, more than 1.9 billion adults and young adults were overweight and of these, over 650 million were obese.
  • The majority of the world's population live in countries where overweight/obesity kills more people than the people who are underweight.
  • About 39 million children under the age of 5 were overweight or obese in 2020 alone.

Obesity can be preventable to an extent and that is when my product (fitness magazine) comes into hand, assessing the issue. My fitness magazine provides strategies on how to get fit. Some of these strategies include different types of exercises and tips.

Update

My front cover magazine has finally been finished! I had trouble editing so I spent hours looking for a website on how to blur the background. I wasted the majority of the day doing that and I finally solved it, I'm not that tech savy. I had to use a different website instead of Canva and it's called VistaCreate.

I've finished the Front Cover Magazine but I'm still working on my Table of Contents and my Double Page Spread. So far the finishing up of my blog has been so time consuming.

Focus Group - Feedback

Focus Group:

The people consisting in my Focus Group is my Brother, Mom, Dad, and Aunt. All of them are fully aware of the Cambridge project I've been working on for weeks. They all have background knowledge on what I'm working on and have personally seen my blogs before. So I thought they would be the perfect group to get feedback from. I went up to them in an evening and showed them my preliminary front cover magazine layout and the content in my double page spread.

Dad: As he was looking at my front cover he said he really liked the color of the Masthead. He said it looks just like the color of blood, which gives it an edgy feeling. I totally agree with him and will most likely keep the color. I did ask him what I should change and he said that he would change the location of the background because it's very dimmed, so something more bright. I know where he's coming from and I will take it into consideration, but I like the color. My dad had nothing much to say about the double page content, he said that those are really good exercises to include.

Mom: Before technology advanced I will always see my mom reading magazines as a little kid. So I know  she will definitely have some valuable feedback. I showed my mom and she said she loves the pose my friend is doing. She says it conveys a masculine tone and that it is perfect for my magazine. She said the opposite about my dad when it comes to the background, she liked the color and the bikes in the background. Maybe gender played a role in this? The colors are feminine and my dad didn't like it but my mom did. For the content page my mom liked it and she told me to make sure to write a lot of exercises because the more the better. I'm definitely going to add some more.

Brother: My brother said that I picked the correct friend to have on my front cover magazine because he likes going to the gym a lot and he's fit. He likes all the colors I chose. For my content he said that he likes the idea that I put in tips that will help the reader not make mistakes. He said he likes it and wouldn't change anything and that I'm doing a good job.

Aunt: My aunt likes the color of the magazine, the tone it gives out. She likes the quotes I included and said it 100% correlates with fitness. I asked her what I should improve and she said that the letters in the front cover should be made bigger. I've thought of this before and I agree with her, I just have to find a design and a way how to make it like how other magazines have it. For my content she said my wording is perfect and that I couldn't of have explained it better. The reader can clearly understand it.

The feedback was very helpful. I took into consideration and will make further improvements in my designs.

Double Page Spread Content

 Content:

I've started to develop content for my double page spread. I'm working on what exercises to include in the magazine. These are some exercises I have so far:

       Dumbbell Shoulder Press

Photo 1- Grab a pair of dumbbells and place them on your knees. * Nick on the chair.

Photo 2- Raise the dumbbells to your shoulders. Looking straight and with a straight posture. Fully extend your arms upward without locking your elbows. *Need to take back pictures.

Photo 3- In the eccentric stage when the dumbbell is coming down. Your elbows should only come down to the shoulder level. And then repeat the process.

                Pushup

Photo 1- Maintain straight line along legs, spine, and neck.

Photo 2- Try to keep your elbows tucked in towards your body. Make sure not to have your elbows flared out.

Photo 3- Go down until your chest is almost touching the floor, then repeat. Make sure not to lock your elbows.

      Bench Press

Photo 1- Lay flat on your back with a slight arch on the bench.

Photo 2- The bar should be above your eye sight, grip your hands on the bar a little over shoulder width apart. Lift and extend your arms straight.

Photo 3- Bring the bar slowly down to your chest as you breath in. When almost to the chest, push up while exhaling and repeat.

Side-note: You can see the Fitness brand Rogue being used as I've mentioned it before in my blogs that it is a popular brand in the Fitness industry.

Progress Report

I'm currently more than half way done with my blogs project. With the deadline coming up it will be here before you know it. I have to start making concrete content into my magazine. I have an idea of how my final magazine is going to be looking like. I do need to take some final pictures using the portrait mode on my iPhone to see if I have to change up anything.

These blogs have been one of the hardest assignments I have had in all of my high school career, it keeps you on edge. There has been many late nights working on it. My laptop is packed with downloads and pictures to the teeth. I'm a good procrastinator so it's even harder for me in general. I have gained a lot of knowledge when it comes to Fitness Magazines and their purpose.

I have about 20 blogs and I have to reach the goal of 30 or minimum 25, but I'm going to reach more than 25. The first blogs I did were the most time consuming, a blog could take me up yo 4 hours but then I start to get used to it. I've had many technological problems with my blogs not loading and saving to not being able to connect to the wifi.

I still have more things to add, as I believe I will being changing things up as new ideas evolve. I have already changed my whole table of contents, I found a better version, using a different website. I'm going to look for any new websites that could help me with the editing and designs for the magazine. I've worked really hard on my blogs and I think I've done a really good job. I took my time in doing my research about Fitness Magazines. I'm glad with the genre I chose, it has a wide variety of features.

Preliminary Front Cover Magazine

 Rough Draft:

I'm currently working on my Front Cover Fitness Magazine. It is a rough draft and I will continue to work on it.

I added content, I want the reader to know what type of information can be found inside the magazine. The red color of the title stands out a lot. I also want to start to take pictures using portrait mode on my iPhone, when I took all my pictures I didn't use that technique but I want to try it and maybe see how it would look as in the front cover and throughout my magazine. What this mode does is blur the background.

I'm using Canva.com, so far as the website to design my magazine. It seems like a very user friendly website and I like it. I've used this website before for other school assignments, so I'm not totally new to it. There is a wide variety of designs I can use.

Timeline

Timeline:

February 16 4:55pm

I scouted areas in my gym for possible magazine cover shots.

February 24

My teacher told the class that we need to start taking pictures or film, for our projects. As soon as she told us, I started to think of who I could possibly take photos of and my friend came into mind. So I texted my friend Nick, who is the closest friend of mine who matches the description of the type of person I want for my Fitness Magazine.

February 27 1:00pm

My friend Nick and I met at the local gym and I took multiple shots of him.

March 9

Editing up my timeline magazine blog.

March 10

Work on my magazine progress report.

March 11

Developing Content. Have everything up to date by midnight for my AICE MEDIA STUDIES class. I went to a Starbucks near my house to work on it.

March 12

Asked a classmate of mine if we could meet at a Starbucks and give advice to each other and feedback on our current Magazine Blogs.

     March 13

Met at a Starbucks and worked on my blogs. She suggested some good editing websites I could use for my pictures. And I also worked on some content for my magazine.

TBA

I have to take more photos for my magazine and develop content for my double page spread analysis; different types of exercises.

Preliminary Table of Contents

I'm working on what more titles I should include in my table of contents. Such as like what sub headings, and how to layout completely my magazine.

I'm still using the Canva website. I did have trouble inserting the images onto the table of contents. Instead of just pasting it on the page, it was inserting the image as a whole background for the entire page.

I still have more ideas in mind and will be adding more into my final table of contents, as this was only a rough draft and was exploring designs and content. My Table of Contents design will most likely change.
